But for older students and students with limited educational achievement, low English proficiency, or extreme test anxiety, the citizenship test can present formidable barriers. This is where adult education programs can make the difference between success and failure. Lynne Weintraub will explain factors that put students at risk of failure and suggest ways to assist these students through instructional modifications and other program supports. Lynne Weintraub is the author of the Citizenship: Passing the Test textbook series. She is the coordinator of the Jones Library ESL Center, a volunteer literacy program with a 100% pass rate on the citizenship test. She also consults on curriculum and professional development in the areas of citizenship education and ESL/literacy. |
