TESOL petition
ask Congress to protect the citizenship test
There's a petition up at the TESOL Advocacy Action Center urging U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to protect the US citizenship test and implement key findings by a panel of experts/stakeholders on test-takers who are English learners with limited formal education.
Specifically, the experts found that the Department of Education’s NRS ESL Level 3 is the fair and appropriate level for the civics and speaking test. (The reading and writing test are already at this level), and they recommended that the speaking test be limited to basic questions. For complex questions, they recommended that applicants be allowed to use interpreters.
