USCIS will soon stop accepting checks for application fees
UCIS has announced that the agency will only continue accepting personal checks, cashier's checks, and money orders until Oct. 28th. After that date, only electronic transactions (via credit cards or ACH debit transactions) will be accepted. According to Boundless, "Individuals without access to U.S. bank accounts, reliable technology, or experience with digital payments may face additional barriers, increasing the risk of application denials. To bridge this gap, community organizations, advocacy groups, and immigration service providers will likely need to expand their support and guidance to help vulnerable populations adapt to the new system."
"Getting ready now for electronic payment will help prevent denials and last-minute payment issues as the October 2025 deadline approaches." Boundless suggests that applicants:
Set up a U.S. bank account if they don't already have one, or
Plan on making a payment using a credit card or prepaid card
Make sure that they have enough funds before submitting an N-400 application to avoid payment rejections and delays
