USCIS halts all immigration cases including citizenship applications

for nationals of 19 countries

The Trump administration appears to be using the shooting of two National Guard members in D.C. last week as a rationale for halting all immigration applications filed by people from 19 countries. This includes pausing oath ceremonies for applicants already approved for citizenship. Asylum and green card decisions have also been frozen.

The applicants affected are nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar (Burma), Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan,Yemen, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.

The administration is reportedly also considering expanding the travel ban to an addional 30 countries.
