New Campaign to Activate One Million to Submit their Citizenship Applications

Through the National Partnership for New Americans

Yesterday a coalition of immigrant advocacy groups launched the “Hazte Ciudadano -Naturalize NOW” campaign as part of an effort to motivate one million eligible U.S. residents to apply for citizenship before the 2020 elections to ensure their right to vote in the upcoming elections and broader political empowerment.

The Hazte Ciudadano -Naturalize NOW campaign highlights bold efforts by member organizations and cities to mobilize and activate members of the community to submit their application as soon as possible. These efforts include community events, financial assistance, traditional and social media campaigns, and fundraising campaigns.

Here is Don Ramón’s, better known as “El Tuercas / Mr. Screws, ” story; the face of the campaign. He is a 45-year-old mechanic and is a beloved community member. He has been a well-respected community member since he first came to America as an immigrant a few decades ago. Don Ramón raised his family and opened his own auto shop, and if there’s anything his sacrifice has taught him well is that the best protection he could provide to all he holds dear was becoming a U.S. citizen.
